Dear Log Cabin friends;

Memorial Day weekend is over and although summer doesn’t officially start until the 3rd week of June, we seem to mentally think summer is now here. Our two oldest grandsons are now out of school and weather usually turns quite warm feeling like summer is certainly close at hand. May has been a wet month & that has helped our poor little plants recover from the frostbite they suffered earlier. The daisies are in abundance and soften the landscape of my country garden so much. They are certainly a simple country pleasure and my garden wouldn’t be complete without them although they seed into many nooks & crannies in my garden that surprise me in the spring .The daisies just seem to know where they will look the best. I like a simple country bouquet of peonies & daisies in an old crock jar on my kitchen island each Memorial Day weekend. The iris’ are still blooming along with the poppies, & other country flowers. It’s a joy to walk, with my cup of hot tea , bidding a good morning to the plants on my garden walk. Sometimes I just sit in my screened- in porch listening to the birds singing & feeding their youngsters – a simple country pleasure; and have you ever noticed just how wonderful that cup of hot tea (or coffee) tastes while breathing in the fresh morning air?

IN THE SUMMER, THE SONG SINGS ITSELF – William Carlos Williams
A bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers – Chinese proverb

If the day & night are such that you greet them with joy and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet scented herbs --- that is your success. – Thoreau

UPCOMING EVENTS AT THE LOG CABIN

BIG SHED SALE is THIS Saturday! Mark your calendar, don’t forget, tell your friends & neighbors. Good stuff! Great bargains!! The workshop will have things in it, the driveways will be full, and you’ll find something you’ll enjoy! Sale starts at 8 a.m. (til 4 p.m.) (The shop opens at 9 a.m. as I need to help with sale the first hour) Dave is selling all his extra tools, and lots of “guy stuff”. There are antiques, primitives, cupboards, grandsons desks, an iron bed complete, and so much miscellaneous. Hope you’ll check it out and tell everyone else about it too.

OLD GLORY RUG CLUB

We will meet June 4th at 6:30 p.m. Bring old or muddy looking golds, plus what you are thinking of for a border. We will discuss the remainder of this wonderful rug. Everyone has been enjoying this and the goal is to have it done by July 4th.

Did you all see the wonderful newspaper write up on our Old Glory Rug club? It was in The Voice newspaper that goes to 20 counties reaching over 100,000 people. It’s the club to be in! Hopefully we’ll eventually have the newspaper articles on the web. (There were 3 articles on our shop in last few weeks)!!!

COUNTRY REGISTER
The May-June issue featured a full page article on our shop also. Try to find a copy of it if you can. If not, stop by the shop & ask for one.

Thanks Country Register for a great write-up!

WOOLKEEPERS
Woolkeepers will meet the 3rd Monday evening of the month, which will be June 18th, 6:30 p.m. We always have a great time! Last month Holly brought the rug she won at the Nebr. State Hook-in , for all to see, that was hooked by Polly Minnick. Pat R. also brought a big wonderful hooked rug that she bought at a garage sale for $10. It was a FIND!

Thanks for sharing Pat & Holly & everyone else for Show & Tell. (Woolkeepers is for all Log Cabin students)

HERB STUDY GROUP
The group met for the first time in May – what a neat time we had studying the herb SAGE. The group (aft.& evening groups) will meet on the 4th Tues. of the month with the topic being LAVENDER led by Donna L. in afternoon and Sue H. in evening. If you are interested in attending just let me know ahead of time. See calendar below.
