Dear Log Cabin friends:

November Greetings from The Log Cabin 2009

Can it be November already - and the holidays just around the corner? Time moves too quickly - or I'm just slower :-).
Yesterday we attended the LAST Farmers Market on Old Cheney Rd. Oh, how I will miss that weekly simple country pleasure. I love seeing all the garden produce. I buy what I don't grow. Yesterday the unusual item I bought was cheddar cauliflower. Yes, it is a pale orange color. The vendor says it has more beta-carotene & a slight cheesy flavor so I bought 2 heads, one for us and one for daughter's table. It's just eye candy walking around seeing the produce, the stems of berries & wreaths, grass fed beef, crisp apples & even pottery, all local.
Thanksgiving - we celebrate the bounty & beauty of the natural world, the warmth of hearth &
home, family & friends, and the tradition for sharing all that makes life more meaningful. We offer our thanks for the earth's abundance this year & prayers for cold winter days which will soon be upon us.

Some of my favorite blessings in November:
Of course, Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday of the year, with family gathered around
My aunts 96th birthday in November
Pumpkins and gourds of all kinds
Fresh apples off my tree, baked apples & warm apple crisp
Home baked bread & black bean soup
Pumpkin Pie, cinnamon and cloves
Fun fall antique & craft shows, and simmering potpourri on my stove
And the groups that meet here this month & I always look forward to.

Another November favorite - a fall arrangement on my long farm table -
a simple country pleasure

What are your favorite blessings for the month of November? And what are you thankful for? Think about it. It's a month of blessings indeed. Twila , The Log Cabin

Come ye thankful people come, Raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in, Ere the winter storms begin. -Alford

CARAMEL APPLE CAKE
This recipe was brought to appliqué group by Joan T. We all raved over it & asked it if could be added to the newsletter. This is fabulous! Thanks Joan.

1 ½ c. vegetable oil 1 tsp. soda
3 eggs 1 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar 1 ½ c. chopped pecans
2 tsp. vanilla 3 c. peeled & diced apples
3 c. flour
Combine oil, eggs, sugar & vanilla. Mix until well blended. Combine flour, soda, & salt & add to the egg mixture. Beat with mixer until completely blended., Fold in apples & pecans. The batter will be quite stiff. Spoon batter into a well greased & floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour & 20 minutes. Leave in pan until completely cool, then invert onto a cake plate. Top with caramel topping.
CARAMEL TOPPING
1 /2 C. butter Mix all ingredients & bring to a slow rolling boil. Cook for
