Dear Log Cabin friends:

Springtime has arrived! And when I heard the peepers on March 17th down at the little pond, I decided I could safely bid winter good-bye -- up until that point I didn’t think winter would ever leave & spring arrive, but it has. What a wondrous event – we get to experience the four seasons here on the prairies of Nebraska! Our patience with the long, hard winter has paid off – everything is growing. After my inspection of the “green things” this morning I found lemon balm & picked a sprig for my glass of nettle iced tea – a simple country pleasure.

The monarda (bee balm) is about 3 inches high, the little blue hanging heads of blooming scillia are so dainty, the pussy willows’ fuzzy buds have opened, the redbud tree is ready to burst into bloom and the tulips are budded. That was just a bit of the “greens” I found when I was out and about telling my green plants that I was glad they fared well through the winter. And what a new beginning it is each and every spring – we all awaken from our long winter’s sleep. Now much yard & garden work is waiting to be done. Springtime in the country – wishing you simple spring pleasures this April, Twila

The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as good as a month! - Van Dyke

NOTES

SHOP IS CLOSED SINCE I RETIRED A YEAR AGO. ONCE IN AWHILE I OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. I GET MANY CALLS & I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT YOU MISS THE SHOP – STAY POSTED.

APPLIQUE GROUPS: The Block of the Month is going well. It would be good if you could “block” your squares ahead of time to be ready for putting it together. Mine are blocked & they look really good (they looked good before but the blocking makes a noticeable difference). Most of you know how to block. If you don’t, then I can show you at next appliqué group. We’ll do Block 8 – I’ll also show you how to start putting it all together. This will be an important class – the block is easy to do, but the directions for putting your quilt together will be informative. Hope you can all come – you’ll soon have your quilt done & ready to hang in a prominent place to “show it off.” It’s an impressive piece of folk art!
